way to go to Shadey village
Introduction about Shadey in Ladakh
Ladakh is a mountainous region that borders India, China and Pakistan, placed in the west of the Himalayas. It's a high plateau of rugged mountains and deep valleys, a very isolated area with a cold, dry climate and very strong sunlight. It is a sort of cold desert. It belongs to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India, but due to its isolated location, Ladakh has a very different culture and language than comparing other parts of India. Most of the residents are Buddhists(Lamaism), and the language uses Ladakhi, the Tibetan dialect is used as a main langauge. Yak, sheep grazing and barley farming are the main traditional industries. There are many places where the distance between villages is more than a day on foot in remote areas with very low population density. The reason of far distance between villages is because of the fact that each village could only be located where the snow on the top of the mountain melts and flows.
Shadey village, which is very remote and isolated even in the ladakh region, is the school would be built up by our organization. This place is located deep inside of the Lung-Rak valley in Zanskar region. There is Phuktal monastery as a landmark can be found on the map and the village is located in the upstream of the valley. It takes about nine hours on foot from the monastery to the village. (It is a summer standard - it would take two days in winter because of snow)
The first impression of the Ladakh region could be the blue sky, the picturesque snow-covered mountains and the barren land with cold air. This place looks tough where people would not be able to live. Many people are not only fascinated by the unique and attractive scenery, but also by the people who live there resonating the deepest echo of the soul. They have lived with their own tradition for over a thousand years. For someone their life might seem too harsh and it might be shown that the Ladakhies don' have many things. But they know how they accept their life humbly with the freedom to smile at their faces rather than look angry or upset or impatient.
